Blueberry Harvester

Self Propelled Blueberry Harvester.
I remember the old days when we would harvest blueberries with a hand rake. It was hot tiring work but our only other object was to hand pick and believe me that made hand raking seem like a pleasure. Blueberry harvesting was a brief season of maybe three weeks so we had to work hard to get the berries in on time. It was during those three weeks we used to dream of an easier way to harvest the berries.

Perhaps I was just lazy. When it came to cutting grass I always wanted a self-propelled lawn mower and when I got one of those I wanted a ride on mower. It seem to me that someone should have invented a self propelled blueberry harvester. And now that I no longer harvest berries, I have stumbled onto a company that does just that.

Acadian Machine Works, a business located in Tignish on Prince Edward Island, Canada has been making both self-propelled and  ride on blueberry harvesters for several years now. PEI harvests plenty of blueberries each year and one can see why he company branched off into this area.

While browsing their site www.acadianmachine.com I could only imagine how much easier our annual chore would have been had we owned such a machine. It would have eliminated many an hour of stooped over and hand raking. Their ride on harvester looked even cooler. But then I saw that they also sold those dreaded hand rakes and the fantasy ended.
